Legislative Agenda

Mandatory Helmet Laws: We will protect the rights of all
riders as to their choice whether to wear a helmet or not.

Lobby to pass a Failure to Yield the Right of Way Bill:
We will continue to lobby to pass the failure to yield the right
of way bill. This bill will fill a gap in the current right of
way statute by increasing the penalties for failure to yield and
will also address the great bodily harm and death that is not in
the current statute.

Preserve New Mexico’s Motorcycle Safety Fund: We will
promote motorcycle rider training and education. We will help
the state to educate the public and promote motorcycle
awareness. Lobby to pass bills that will impact safety and
education at all levels. We will work with the New Mexico
Motorcycle Safety Advisory Board.

Voter Registration: We encourage all motorcyclists to
become registered voters and to vote. As an organization we
cannot support anyone candidate but we can send the candidates
questionnaires and publish all answers that are received so that
the voter can make an informed decision.

Educate Motorcyclists on how to Lobby: We will educate
any and all motorcyclist on how to lobby in New Mexico and
Nationally, we will give every motorcyclist the opportunity to
participate in this process.

Lobby to Pass Anti-Discrimination Bill: We will assist
the New Mexico Confederation of Clubs with lobbying for an
anti-discrimination bill.

Lobby to have all License Plates Available to Motorcyclists:
All motorcyclists should be able to have any specialty plate
that is made for vehicles available to them. We will lobby to
make this happen.

Patriot Acts: Oppose legislation that threatens
an individual’s constitutional rights on both State and National
level.

Support MRF: We will help the Motorcycle Riders
Foundation with any National issues that they are working on. We
will also promote MRF’s national agenda to all New Mexico
riders. We will encourage all New Mexico riders to join MRF

Work with ABATE of New Mexico: We will work with ABATE of
New Mexico on their agenda of promoting safety and education
along with preserving motorcyclists rights.
